Religious institutions establish art exhibit programs for many reasons. Some are: evangelization, furthering appreciation of art for its intrinsic beauty, exposure to the public of artists who create religious art, and promotion of fellowship among congregation members who enjoy artistic endeavor.
Availability of gallery space, funds, volunteers and staff all contribute to the scope of exhibit program possible. This article will first explore options for modest endeavors, then progress to steps towards establishing an organization with characteristics of a traditional art museum.
