For 2022, Traditional Fine Arts Organization (TFAO) is focusing on co-sponsorship grants to nonprofit Orange County art venues planning American representational art exhibitions, web-based and/or in-person, featuring retrospectives of California living artists and monographs for deceased artists. Also of interest are exhibits based on topics of historic interest, e,g, California regionalists, historic Orange County portraitists, Orange County ranching, intra-county collaborative and touring, etc. Disfavored are exhibitions featuring current faculty and students, photography that features current photo-journalism, emerging artists and digital art.
Of importance is the institution's policy regarding archiving details of past exhibitions in the past exhibitions section of its website. We favor exhibitions with online posting of any/all enriched content which may include: images; recordings of curator interviews and lectures; artist and curator biographies; virtual tours; teacher guide; press releases; media coverage; wall texts; enhanced object labels; illustrated checklist, online brochure, catalogue or gallery guide in flip book format; etc. If an institution has not yet added enriched information about an exhibition at the time of its posting of an upcoming exhibit, yet based on postings of prior exhibitions is likely to add material when the future exhibition becomes a current one, we will take that pattern into consideration. We require for each grant that all online information posted concerning an exhibition, including that noted above, will be at all times available to the public without charge.
We encourage institutions to make online catalogs available to the public without charge, while paper printed copies remain monetized, one reason being that "coffee table" catalogs appeal to an audience largely separate from viewers of online versions which are largely students and teachers. Our Online Exhibition Brochures, Catalogues, Gallery Guides and Related Materials contains examples of online catalogs freely available to the public. These institutions decided that freely available online brochures and catalogs (optionally locked out for download or content copying) broadly serve the global public, aren't materially detrimental to their net operating income and serve to further their mission statement education component.
We will concentrate on grants to the following institutions: Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens, Hilbert Museum of California Art, Jack & Shanaz Langson Institute & Museum of California Art, Laguna Art Museum, Mission San Juan Capistrano, Landmark, Chapel, Museum and Gardens, and Moulton Museum. TFAO prefers either initiating challenge or seed grants in the range of 10 to 25 percent of project cost.
Considering our co-support, we request naming the grantor as follows:
