American Glass: Masters of the Art
September 4 - October 31, 1999
Glass - this ancient material is served fresh in a touring exhibit
from the Smithsonian and the U.S. Information Agency. The MMAA brings the
colorful diversity of glass to Minnesota in American Glass: Masters of
the Art. Chosen from thousands of artists, the thirteen represented
in American Glass are truly "Masters of the Art." From
the spiritual to the whimsical, from architectural to abstract, the objects
in this exhibition show how American artists have embraced the medium and
breathed new life into this ancient material. (left: Richard Marquis,

American Glass: Masters of the Art was organized and curated by Lloyd E. Herman, founder of the Smithsonian's Renwick Gallery. It is circulated by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibit Service, and supported in part by the U.S. Information Agency.
