Art in Bloom

During the bleakest months of winter, visitors call bask in the warmth of Art in Bloom, a colorful collection of watercolors, oils, photographs, sculpture, and porcelain that celebrate flowers. Sixteen artists display their floral art work in the exhibition curated by Patricia Johnson of Mt. Carroll. Art in Bloom is featured January 16 through February 27, 2000. Mary Lou Anderson, former resident of Freeport, has taught watercolor classes in Michigan and Illinois, and she has been an active volunteer in the arts. She earned her B.A, in Fine Arts from Saginaw Valley State University. Photographer Tom Baril of Chicago has photographs in many prestigious private and public collections including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University, and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. Baril studied at the Robert Mapplethorpe Studio. Joan Elan Davis of San Francisco has exhibited her abstract paintings throughout the United Stales. Deb DeBruyn of Freeport has an M.F.A. from Michigan State University, she has taught art at all grade levels, and her work is included in permanent collections around the world. Ingrid Neuhofer Dohm of Rockford was born and raised in Austria. Today she works and exhibits in the U.S. and Europe. (right: Ingrid Neuhofer Dohm, Red Flowers in Vase)

Carmen Ferguson of Galena has a B.F.A degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She gets the inspiration for her vivid paintings from her own expansive garden. Other regional artists are included in the exhibition.
