Crossed Purposes: Joyce and Max Kozloff
The Muscarelle Museum of Art at The College
of William and Mary will present the exhibition "Crossed Purposes:
Joyce and Max Kozloff" from March 25 to May 21, 2000. The exhibition
opening will be held Friday, March 24 with a 5-6 p.m. gallery talk with
artist Max Kozloff and 6-7:30 p.m. reception. The exhibition opening and

To complement the exhibition, Museum director Bonnie Kelm will give an informative lecture and gallery talk on "Artist Couples" at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2000. This program is also free and open to the public.
Joyce
Kozloff is widely known as a painter and public artist, first coming to
national attention as an originating member of the pattern and decorative
movement of the 1970s. Since that time she has worked in a variety of media
and created a number of distinguished public art commissions. Max Kozloff
is a well-known photographer whose work has been internationally exhibited
for over 20 years. He is also a prominent writer, editor, critic and art

Since their marriage in 1967, Joyce and Max Kozloff as individual artists have shared a passion for travel and a need for creative expression. Both have focused on foreign landscapes and cultures as the subject matter for their art. Although they have traveled together for many years, they have viewed the places they have visited very differently. This exhibition marks the first time the Kozloffs have collaborated on a joint exhibition by choosing pieces that spotlight similar themes in their work. It also marks the first time they have consciously considered their influence upon each other. This special collaborative show reveals their separate explorations of theme and media, as well as their ongoing dialogue.
"Crossed Purposes: Joyce and Max Kozloff" was organized by The Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, Ohio.
