At Home On The Range
Celebrate the American Cowboy. Relive the Old West with art, artifacts
and activities
in
the exhibition At Home On The Range on display in the King Gallery
at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center through August 6, 2000.
Featuring selected paintings, drawings and sculpture from the Center's Francis King Collection, this exhibition includes works that are as vibrant and exciting as their titles while preserving the wild and wonderful western frontier. Discover
works such as When Rifles Count by Bill Chappell, Sop and Taters
by
Harvey
Johnson, Hat First, Boots Last by J. O. Bartles and The Last Hill
Home by Robert "Shoofly" Shufelt. A display of saddles, spurs,
branding irons and other cowboy memorabilia add to the western flavor of
the gallery and compliment the exhibition thanks to local collector Bob
Johnston who has loaned many items for the exhibit. Yet, to truly experience
the trip back in time, you need to sit on a saddle, try your hand at roping
or design your own brand. Here's your opportunity. (left: Robert
