Artists Influenced by Grant Wood
March 3 to May 12, 2000
Twelve working artists from Iowa and across the country are highlighted in this exhibition. Each artist's work is influenced either conceptually or technically by the work of Iowa's most well known artist Grant Wood. This exhibition continues the mission of the museum to foster and showcase living, working, local and regional artists. Additionally, exhibiting these artists in conjunction with the museum's collection of Grant Wood art provides an exceptional educational opportunity. People will be able to see how the interaction of artists fosters intellectual and technical development.
Also
on exhibit through May 11 is "The Gist of Drawing: Works on Paper by
John Sloan," an exhibition organized by the University of Delaware
and the Delaware Art Museum. The role of drawing in the career of the American
artist John Sloan (1871-1951) is represented in this exhibition of 116 works
on paper from the
collection
of the Delaware Art Museum. The exhibition is arranged thematically in the
following categories: illustration, figure studies, landscapes and cityscapes,
preparatory drawings and the artist at work and play. Viewing these works
reveals the duality of Sloan's life both in the city, Greenwich Village,
and the country, Gloucester and Santa Fe. (left: John Sloan, House
