Chalita Brossett Robinson - Walls and Windows and Wings
The colorful and vibrant artwork of Bakersfield artist, Chalita
Brossett Robinson will be on display at the Bakersfield Museum of Art from
May 5 through June 18, 2000. The exhibit includes 27 two dimensional works,
3 bronze sculptures. a 22-foot long three dimensional piece, and a wonderfully
thought provoking installation in which the viewer will be able to physically

Ms.
Robinson has lived in Bakersfield and taught at Bakersfield College for
more than 30 years, 
although she is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana.
The rich and exciting influence of that culturally diverse city is evident
in her art with its undulating movements and bright, rich colors. (left:

The subject matter of this exhibition is revealed in the title, "Walls and Windows and Wings." Ms. Robinson comments that "this work focuses on the theme of 'passage,' the struggle to learn, change, and grow through life." (see artist statement)
She was initially motivated by Gall Sheehy's book, Passages;
Clarissa Pinkola Estes' book, Women Who Run 
With the Wolves; the writings
of Maya Angelou; and more recently, by her own personal experiences. (right:
