Elen Feinberg: A Decade of Light
"Elen Feinberg: A Decade of Light" opened May 25, 2000 in the William and Anna Jane Schlossman Gallery at the Plains Art Museum and continues through July 9. Feinberg's paintings are about events in nature. They are inspired in part by photographs supplied by the Severe Storms Center in Norman, Oklahoma and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.
The Museum will host a Meet the Artist reception for Feinberg on Tuesday, June 6 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm with an artist's presentation at 6:30 pm. Admission to the reception is free for Museum members and at regular rates for non-members of $3 per individual and $2.50 for students and seniors.
Feinberg's
lyrical paintings of clouds and incandescent light hover on the borderline
between representation and abstraction. Her paintings take their moods from
the sky. These luscious paintings recall the Turner clouds of Alfred Bierstad
and more recently, the work of Mark Rothko. They are paintings of sudden
or fading light in the dark with subtle and somber approaches toward the

The Feinberg exhibit is a Plains Art Museum produced exhibit. The exhibit was made possible in part by funding from the Minnesota State Arts Board through an appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and by the Lake Agassiz Arts Council, City of Fargo.
