Robert Gratiot's acrylic paintings are so photorealistic you will have to look again to convince yourself. His work is now on display at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center in the exhibition, Reflections, in the Regional Gallery through Aug. 19, 2000. (left: Hey, Hey, LBJ)

This Denver artist has two strongly differing subjects that he loves to paint -- reflective surfaces and city scenes.

His still-lifes are delights of artistic expression and truly entertaining to see. From John Lennon, Glasses In Cellophane to Marbles In Baggies to Ornaments, the reflective surface works are contemporary and nostalgic. They play on the contrasts between transparency, translucency and opacity. (right: Marbles)

In the city scenes, he provides the illusion of several different planes of space overlapping each other and standing side-by-side. This causes viewers to see near, deep inside and even behind. The abstract elements create a realistic whole.

With an MFA from the University of Denver, his award-winning works have been exhibited from Kansas to California.
