sva2000 at Palmer Museum of Art

Now through September 17, 2000, the Palmer Museum of Art will showcase the work of twenty-eight full-time studio faculty of the School of Visual Arts in sva2000.

The exhibition demonstrates the rich variety of art produced by the faculty and documents for future generations -- fine examples of contemporary art as practiced at the turn of our century. Visitors will have a chance to view a wide range of media, from painting, sculpture, and printmaking to photography, video, and art on the Web. Included in the exhibition will be four installations resulting from collaborations between SVA faculty and writers from the College of the Liberal Arts. In his essay for the catalogue accompanying the exhibition, Charles Garoian, director of the School of Visual Arts, notes that sva2000 brings together a "group of professional artists and educators whose artworks respond to the vast ecology of visual images in art history and contemporary culture. . . . Their artworks challenge the stereotypical representations of mass-mediated culture with new ideas, images, and myths about contemporary cultural life."
