Selections from the Worth B. Stottlemyer Collection
February 4, 2000 marked the permanent
installation of works from the Worth B. Stottlemyer Collection. This
event represents the culmination of several year's work and inaugurates
a new
era
for the visual arts at Juniata College. Although many liberal arts
colleges have galleries for temporary and traveling exhibitions, few have
a permanent collection and the space to exhibit, study, and conserve it.
The establishment and installation of the Stottlemyer collection places
the Juniata College Museum of Art among the best of the liberal arts college
museums in the Mid-Atlantic region. Highlights from the collection
include paintings by Hudson River School artists, portrait miniatures, as
well as Old Master and nineteenth-century prints. American artists
include James Abbott McNeill Whistler, Asher B. Durand, Arthur Fitzwilliam
Tait and Jervis McEntee. Additional selections from the Museum's diverse
holdings will be installed in future years to complement the Stottlemyer
Collection. (above left: Arthur Fitzwilliam
