Communicating America's Vision: The Nevada Bell Collection
Take a closer look at the twentieth-century during "Communicating America's Vision: The Nevada Bell Collection," presented al: the Nevada Museum of Art (NMA) from July 1 through September 3, 2000. The NMA features a selection of modern and contemporary works from the corporate collection of SBC Communications, Inc., parent company to Nevada Hell. The exhibition, organized by the Carey Ellis Company of Houston, Texas, features works by artists such as Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, Georgia O'Keeffe and William Wegman. The collection includes works by artists who share an American nationality but celebrate their individual cultural heritage through their art. Additionally, the NMA will utilize Nevada Bell's current communications technology to offer visitors the opportunity to learn more about the exhibit. The exhibit is sponsored by Nevada Bell. The Nevada Museum of Art will present "Communicating America's Vision: The Nevada Bell Collection" as part of the fifth annual Artown Festival, continuing through July 31, 2000, hosted by the City of Reno. The month-long Summer Arts Festival features more than 200 events produced by 52 cultural organizations and businesses in three dozen locations city wide. The collection was developed over the last fifteen years with the goal of being presented to the communities served by SBC Communications as well as museum visitors from throughout the world. "Communicating America's Vision" represents important movements in American art, namely Realism, Modernist abstraction, Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art, Minimalism, and contemporary Postmodernism. Over the past ten years, major works by artists such as
Bruce Nauman, Charles Sheeler, Roy Lichtenstein, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Mark
Rothko have become identified with SBC Communications, Inc., along with
other works by successful cutting-edge artists such as Carrie Mae Weems,
Elizabeth Murray and Romare Bearden.
