Maxfield Parrish, 1870-1966
by Alma Gilbert
As a result of spending two winters in Arizona..., Parrish began using more intense color in his work. He was strngly affected by nature's show of hues. The Great Southwest paintings -- Night in the Desert, Desert with Water, The Grand Canyon, Pueblo Dwellings, Desert without Water (Cowboys), and Water on a Field of Alfalfa are perhaps the finest.
