The C.M. Russell Museum is presenting An Exact View, a special exhibition on display through September 1, 1999. This exhibition is a collection of works by seven living artists who create paintings that are precise and realistic. Participating artists are Reid Christie, Cody, Wyoming; Monte Dolack, Missoula, Montana; Stanley Hughes, Missoula, Montana; Michael Poulsen, Cody, Wyoming; Judy Sleight, Seattle, Washington; Jeff Walker, Fort Shaw, Montana; and Pace Young, Bozeman, Montana.
Although the artworks in An Exact View offer a wide range
of themes, each artist was concerned with communicating a subject in great
detail rather than as a broad expression of brush strokes or an abstracted
form. The images chosen for the show were selected because they accurately
reflect a subject, and are true to its shape, color, and texture. What distinguishes
each of these artists' works is an interest in portraying exactly what the
image is - be it a flower, a portrait or a landscape. While viewing the
exhibition, a first impression is one of easy recognition, however, a closer
examination of the details will encourage an ongoing exploration.
