Pueblo People: Ancient Traditions, Modern Lives
An exhibition of photographs
by Marcia Keegan depicting the lives of Pueblo Indians will be on display
at The Philbrook Museum of Art Sept. 30, 1998 - Jan. 3, 1999. Pueblo
People: Ancient Traditions, Modern Lives captures the personal dimensions
of Indian culture inside the New Mexico Pueblos. Included are 25 color photographs
taken recently and over the past 30 years. This exhibition presents a portrait
of the daily lives of an ages-old culture, the individuals and communities
who keep it alive, and the beautiful villages in which they have lived for
hundreds, perhaps thousand of years.
Keegan, a world-renown writer and photographer who makes
her home in Sante Fe, has photographed the Navajo country and Pueblos for
most of her life. She is the only phototgrapher to date who has been allowed
to take photographs in all of the New Mexico Pueblos. She has published
numerous books, and her photographs are in the permanent collections of
The Museum of Modern Art, The Library of Congress, and other institutions.
Pueblo People is sponsored by McGraw Davisson Stewart Realtors, and will be on display in the La Fortune Mezzanine Gallery.
