Artists Image the Crone: Archetypes of Womanly Wisdom

Noted artist Helen Redman will deliver a free public lecture and slide presentation on her works - "Artists Image the Crone: Archetypes of Womanly Wisdom" - from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday March 3, 2000 at the University of San Francisco's Lone Mountain campus Room 148.

An exhibition of her work will be at the Thacher Gallery from March 1 to March 29, 2000. A reception for the artist will be from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday March 4 at the USF Thacher Gallery in Gleeson Library's Geschke Center. USF Lone Mountain campus is at 2800 Turk Blvd. and the Thacher Gallery is on Golden Gate Avenue. Both locations are between Parker and Masonic. (left: Red Crone)

For more than two decades, Redman has been an active force in gaining support and recognition for women in the arts. In 1992, she was a founding member of the Women's Caucus for the Arts San Diego Chapter and served as its first president. (right: Story Bones)

Redman, a San Diego-based artist, depicts the journey into old age with stark, earthy and moving portraits of herself and other aging women. Her work has been displayed throughout the United States and abroad. Her honors include a Ford Foundation Award.

Redman's March 3 presentation and March 4 presentation are part of a two-day national conference at USF, "Illuminations 2000: Dialogues on Women."
