Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS) has a Reference & Information Services section interested in Internet resources on the visual arts.

Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) "...works to expand access to information, however recorded and preserved, as a public good."

Digital Library Federation (DLF) is an organization which is establishing standards and "best practices" for digital collections. The work of the DLF is of interest to and is being monitored by TFAO. One of the partners of the DLF is the California Digital Library which "has become one the largest digital libraries in the world."

D-Lib Magazine, published by Corporation for National Research Initiatives is "...a solely electronic publication with a primary focus on digital library research and development, including but not limited to new technologies, applications, and contextual social and economic issues" with all back issues available free of charge.

JSTOR, features a digitized collection of academic journals and is planning as of October 2003 the addition of journals in art history including Art Bulletin and Art Journal. Access to the JSTOR archive is available only through affiliation with a participating higher education institution or through an individual account with a participating publisher. Art Bulletin and Art Journal are published by the College Art Association.

Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations is dedicated to improving graduate education by developing accessible digital libraries of theses and dissertations. Also, the Dissertation Abstracts database provides indexing of virtually all doctoral dissertations accepted by U.S. and Canadian institutions since 1861.

Pachyderm 2.0 Project is a partnership led by the New Media Consortium and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The project is funded by the Institute for Museum and Library Services. According to the New Media Consortium's "About the Project" page "The new tool will be based on Pachyderm, the authoring and publishing tool developed by SFMOMA to author its successful series, Making Sense of Modern Art." SFMOMA also used Pachyderm 1.0 to create Web presentations featuring the works of Romare Bearden and Frank Stella. These online presentations feature Macromedia Flash plus QuickTime movies to produce interactive features. The project will lead to an online document viewer (what a reader sees and uses when accessing the Amazon and Google Print document viewing screens) for paper-based media such as books and manuscripts.
